One-in-a-Million Maeve is the epitome of everything that should be passed along in the amazing English Shepherd breed. She does it ALL; Hunts, Herds, Guards, Nurtures, Comforts and Loves.
Her health record proves a GREAT immune system and superb physical and mental health. She turns 13 in March/21. She has beat Lyme disease, twice. Bounced back from bad Coon and Fox bites. [She hates Racoons, Opossum, Skunks and Foxes. She will absolutely not get any rest if she knows a predator is anywhere near the farm. I caught her one day jumping up on the broad side of the barn, bouncing off and turning around and jumping back up on the barn about 5 ft above the ground, over and over again. Well I thought maybe she was loosing it, just jumping up on the building like that but Maeve has a way of proving me wrong when I doubt her. Ended up that a few young possums had moved into that barn wall and she made it her mission day after day to stake out the area until each one made their fatal mistake. We had to make an emergency trip to the vet once in a BLIZZARD with a large pup stuck in her birth canal but as soon as the big boy got turned around, Maeve popped the next 6 pups out in the vets office and had 2 more in the back seat of the pickup as we slipped and slid home. She was in her prime with that litter of 12 beautiful, healthy pups and she was never even anxious. That is our "One in a Million-Maeve". I have shared many of Maeve's stories over the past 13 years on various sites, social media venues. and in conversation BUT, here on her own webpage, on her farm's website I will chronicle many of her beautiful life's events. I hope you will enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoyed living them with her. These are One-in-a-Million Maeve's stories, HER adventures, HER accomplishments, HER Life documented. SmartUsually, when one gets a new puppy home you begin with the basics of house breaking, crating, leash training, sit, stay, come. Well.... Maeve taught us all a thing or two. She was house broken in 1 day, walking on her leash without resistance in 2 days, loved time in the crate and broke all sit, stay, come records.
At 4 months she observed my frustration with a 4 year old border collie we were helping to rehab. This bc would swim round and round in the pond herding our flock of geese in continuous circles around the pond. The dog just would not stop, would not come when called, would not divert its attention away from its obsession. Little Maeve was by my side during this incident and I remembered thinking we'll have to get rid of the BC sooner that planned because I do not want it to negatively influence our Maeve in her training. So I sat down to take off my shoes to wade into the pond to get the BC and Maeve jumped into the pond swam to the BC grabbed her by the collar and swam her over to me. My mouth still drops when I share this story and Maeve has never stopped amazing everyone she meets. |
Obedient/BiddableShe is an excellent teacherMaeve has set a very high standard of expectations from the breed. She has been our model for our pups and dogs We expect immediate response, drop whatever you are doing if called and only have to be told or warned a time or two.She has always been an excellent teacher, a sometimes harsh discipliniarian mixed with patiance and perservance.
